The blasting of industrial chimneys is almost always associated with restrictions caused by the design of the chimney or the structural conditions.

During the actual blasting the fall direction can be controlled through the use of different charge quantities. In addition to the explosive charges used the chimney base is weakened in different places. In the case of reinforced concrete structures the preparatory measures can go as far as installing special joints in order to determine the exact fall direction.

Cost efficiency is impaired by the necessary health protection, i.e. not every chimney can simply be blasted without analysing minutely beforehand how high the pollution with harmful substances released by the blast will be.

Nevertheless the blasting of chimneys remains the preferred option of demolition since it provides maximum levels of safety for the workers.
